Professor Tasneem Siddiqi of the Department of Political Science at Dhaka University has expressed regret before a parliamentary committee over her media interview on expatriate income.

Professor Tasneem, founding Chair of Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit in Bangladesh, appeared before the parliamentary standing committee meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday and explained her position on the interview.

Professor Tasneem was summoned by the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Finance over the interview titled ‘Remittance flow and expatriates do not match reality’ that was published on Bangla daily Prothom Alo on February 8.

After the committee meeting, Parliament Secretariat, in a press release, said, “Only the headline was negative and the rest of views in the interview were positive.”

The sixth meeting of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Finance of the Eleventh National Assembly was held under the chairmanship of Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, a member of the committee, was present at the meeting.

Among the other members present at the meeting were Abdus Shahid, Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Abul Kalam, Ahsanul Haque Chowdhury, Ahmed Firoz Kabir, Rana Mohammad Sohail and Harunur Rashid.
