He highlights the importance of preserving Bangladesh’s rich Buddhist heritage

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram K Doraiswami on Wednesday visited Dharmarajika Buddhist Monastery in Dhaka on Prabarana Purnima, one of the holiest days, and interacted with the community members. 

Doraiswami spoke of the eternal relevance of the message of righteous thought, action and nonviolence, and its impact on both Bangladesh and India. 

He also spoke of the inauguration of a new international Airport at Kushinagara by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The envoy highlighted the importance of preserving Bangladesh’s rich Buddhist heritage, which had impacted language, culture and architecture of the country, as is reflected in Paharpur and Maynamoti, both considered unique for their size and architecture. 

Talking about the High Commission of India’s special relationship with Bouddha Kristi Prachar Sangha, Doraiswami reiterated continuing cooperation, as reflected in building of Dharmarajika orphanage and donation of furniture and books for Dharmarajika High School Science Research Lab and Library.
